Acupuncture and Chinese Herbs are powerful medicines which aide in strengthening the immune system and serve to prevent diseases, control pain and increase both the ability to function and the quality of people's lives.
Traditional Chinese Medicine, or TCM is composed of a variety of modalities - Acupunture being just one of them.
Two frequently asked questions:
1) What can acupuncture help with?
Acupuncture and Chinese herbs can help with many symptoms and excels in preventative measures. For example, the NIH has a list of over 97 symptoms such as back pain, knee pain, allergies, stress, headaches (see list for more) etc.
In addition to helping symptoms acupuncture and Chinese medicine will look at the overall "picture" of a person's health. A TCM diagnosis is going to be a "pattern" based on the Five Element structure. The whole person is lookedat an assessed, a pattern is diagnosed and the treatment is based off this pattern. Two people with the same symptoms, such as back pain or asthma, may have very different "patterns" and therefore different treatments.
2) Do the needles hurt?
Acupuncture needs are solid and hair-thin. Most people experience the acupuncture needles with minimal (slight pinch) or no pain as the needles are inserted. The overall experience of an acupuncture treatment varies from feeling extremenly relaxed to energized.
